Introduction:

Andhra Pradesh is one of the 29 states in India. It is the eighth largest state of India, situated on south eastern coast of India. Andhra Pradesh is recognized adversely for its legendary dynasties, temples, nifty language - Telugu, lacquer toys and classy weaves, literature and the Kuchipudi. It is a beautiful state known for its richness in culture and heritage.

Capital of Andhra Pradesh:

Currently, Hyderabad is the capital of both, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, but the state is planning to make Amravathi as its capital.

Language of Andhra Pradesh:

The official and most spoken language of Andhra Pradesh is Telugu. Being one of the most spoken languages of India, it is ranked 15 among all the largest spoken languages of the world. Other main languages spoken here are Hindi, Urdu and English.

Districts of Andhra Pradesh:

The districts under Andhra Pradesh, after bifurcation, are Chittoor, Guntur, Anantapur, Nellore, Kadapa, Krishna, Kurnool, East Godavari, West Godavari, Vizianagaram, Prakasam, Srikakulam and Vishakhapatnam.

Festivals of Andhra Pradesh:

• Ugadi - This festival is celebrated as “Telugu New Year”
• Makar Sankranti - This festival is celebrated in January and is also known as Harvest festival of India. People celebrate by surfing kites and eating til-gul.
• Maha Shivaratri - This festival is related to Lord Shiva, where people fast all day and worships Shiva Linga by offering Bael leaves and milk.
• Ram Navami - This is a festival of Lord Rama, celebrated on the 9th day of Navaratri.
• Varalakshmi Vratham - The second Friday of Shravana is celebrated as Varalakshmi Vratham, a festival of goddess Laxmi.
• Ganesh chaturthi - A ten days festival where people decorate pandals with beautiful idols of Lord ganesh. After 10th day the idol is immersed in water and this is called as Visarjan.

Food of Andhra Pradesh:

The staple food of Andhra Pradesh is rice. The food here is hot and spicy. The breakfast here is quite famous and consists of idli, vada, dosa and tea/coffee. Because of the influence of The Nizams, it also follows the Mughlai cuisine. Hyderabadi Biryani is very popular here.

Dance and Music of Andhra Pradesh:

Kuchipudi, derived from Bharatanatyam, is the most famous dance form of Andhra Pradesh. It is performed on classical carnatic music and is very similar to Bharatanatyam. Andhra pradesh is also known for its rich musical heritage. Folk songs are very famous here.
